Roman Villa Bollendorf
Upriver from the Bollendorf castle are the remains of a Roman villa which was discovered during excavations from 1907 to 1910. The Bollendorf villa with its corner projections (corner towers) and the connecting colonnaded porch is the most well-known representative of the typical country estate manor in the Moselle and Rhineland areas. A large hall with cellar stairs and cellar lie behind the porch, with the bath on the left.
Roman Villa Echternach
Just outside near-by Echternach (Luxembourg) there are the remains of a large luxurious villa (118 x 62 m/390 x 200 ft) with numerous spacious rooms and a reflecting pool in front. The villa has been excavated and preserved. The hill above the village boasts Roman fortifications, St. Peter’s church, and the St. Willibrord’s Abbey.
