Saar-Hunsrück Climb

This premium hiking trail takes you from the Saar Bend near Mettlach across the heights of the Hunsrück, along pristine streams and brooks, past impressive artificial lakes and hill bogs. At the Keller Steg (bridge) you must decide whether you want to hike to Trier, Germany’s oldest city, or to continue on to the Erbeskopf Mountain (2,684 ft/818 m) in the direction of the gemstone town Idar-Oberstein.

In 2009, the Saar-Hunsrück Climb, altogether 114 mi/184 km long, was elected the most beautiful long-distance hiking trail in Germany and achieved, with its 58 adventure points, the top ranking among German long-distance hiking trails. Its unique feature: more than 70% natural paths. Numerous “Dream Loops” along the trail round off the hiking possibilities, places to dream about.
