Trier Personalities from 2025 Years
Trier’s history holds a wealth of personalities who have achieved great significance far beyond the region’s borders. Figures who have gained a place in world history have left a lasting impression through their stay in Trier or their particular reference to the city. Nine of these personalities competed in 2004 on the occasion of Trier’s 2020th birthday for the title of the “Greatest Trier Personality.” They are portrayed on the following pages.


Augustus, the first Roman Emperor, was the "godfather" of the city, founded under the name "Augusta Treverorum".
