A musical-literary encounter with Rainer Maria Rilke
"THE ONE AND ALWAYS THIS ONE" presented by the Ensemble Kalliope
In the wonderful atmosphere of the historic Römersaal, a magnificent alliance will be experienced, an alternation of poems, texts, and musical settings by the great Austrian poet.
Rilke's aim is to say "the one and always this one," to proclaim the loneliness, abandonment, and suffering of every creature, including humans. In 1907, he wrote to Stefan Zweig: "It seems to me as if I had so much one thing and always this one thing to say."
It is his attention to human suffering, to loneliness, hardship, and destruction. Who doesn't know the famous poem "The Panther," written by the 27-year-old poet in Paris? It stands as a symbol of the suffering and abandonment of all creatures. These are themes that are particularly relevant in our time.
Bass-baritone Carlo Entringer will perform selected musical settings, accompanied by Claude Weber on the piano. Rilke's poems and texts will be recited by actor Hilmar Berndt, with Nadine Hoffmann responsible for biographical information, as well as the presentation and concept.
Music by Samuel Barber, Norbert Stelmes, Alma Mahler, and Beethoven ("To the Distant Beloved")
Doors: 7:15 p.m.
