This was never intended to be a conventional church mass. Instead, Giuseppe Verdi—the Italian king of opera—composed his *Messa da Requiem* for the concert hall. It is more secular and dramatic—an extraordinary work of immense power and conviction.

And that is precisely what makes it so special. Verdi’s Requiem portrays religious themes—the fear of death, the hope for salvation, the torments of hell, and existential anguish—using the tone and expressive language of opera. This makes his *Messa* one of the most important masterpieces of the choral repertoire—perfectly suited to serve as the traditional grand finale of our National Holiday celebrations.

This festive finale will be performed by an orchestra, choirs, and soloists against the captivating backdrop of the Cathedral of Trier, a venue renowned for its unique acoustics. An unforgettable experience!
