In this workshop, you'll learn how to engrave ceramics, a technique also known as sgraffito.
Layers of colored clay are applied and then revealed through engraving. This creates fine lines, patterns, and contrasts—directly with your hands, completely intuitively.
You'll work on a hand-thrown plate, specially made for the workshop. All materials, paint, glaze, and both firings are included, allowing you to focus entirely on the design.
Here's how the workshop unfolds:
Arrival & Introduction
We'll start with a relaxed introduction:
What does ceramic engraving mean, what tools are used, and how does the technique work step by step?
Getting Started with a Small Project
To begin, you'll engrave a small, handmade refrigerator magnet. This will give you a feel for pressure, line work, and the material.
Designing Your Plate
Next, you'll paint your plate, transfer your design, and bring it to life through engraving.
I'll guide you individually – whether you come with a specific idea or prefer to let your intuition guide you.
Duration: approximately 3 hours
