Transit Bike Racks

From Trier you can make wonderful cycling tours along the Central Moselle and in the Eifel. In addition to regional trains, buses with bike racks take you to the starting point of your tour or provide an oppotunity for a relaxed return. And many steep climbs in the Eifel or Hunsrück can be avoioded by using transit with bike racks.

RadBusse are fixed route buses equipped with bike racks and many also allow to carry pedelecs. The RadBus-Lines in the Eifel, along the Moselle and Hunsrück will open the season in April 2024.

Ideas for excursions can be found in the most recent cycling experience map which can be downloaded free of charge. It is also availableist at our tourist information at the Porta Nigra, as well as at other information points and railway stations in the region or at the customer centres of the transport companies.

Bike rack spaces must be booked in advance online or by phone. Per bike 3 euros will be charged, children under 14 years pay 2 euros for each bicycle. The online reservation fee is 2 euros for up to five bikes, for telephone bookings there is an additional service fee of 5 euros per booking. In addition to the tickets for bike transportion, a passenger ticket must be purchased.


The nearby Saarschleife can also be easily reached by a combination of bike, train and the Saarschleife Bus.
 
Along the Upper Moselle there are no cycle buses in operation but the regional trains are usually not far from the cycle routes and offer a good option to cover part of the route by train. You can find all information on bicycle transport and timetables on the pages of the Moseltalbahn (right bank of the Moselle) and the CFL (left bank of the Moselle).

Bike rack spaces on transit buses must be booked in advance - either online or via phone.
Tickets for bike rack spaces cannot be purchased on transit buses or at bus stops.
In addition to the tickets for bicycle transport, a passenger ticket must be purchased. The Deutschlandticket is valid for passenger transport.
