World Heritage Experience Center

Discover Trier’s Past in a Whole New Way!

Something exciting is coming to Trier! In the historic Ratskeller beneath the Steipe on the Main Market Square, the World Heritage Experience Center (WEZ) is being created — a place where history comes alive with modern technology, creativity, and imagination.
The Steipe is the perfect location: originally built in 1483 as a civic initiative, it has always been a place where people come together. Rebuilt by the citizens after World War II, it still represents the spirit of the city — open, welcoming, and full of life.

What Is the World Heritage Experience Center?
The WEZ will be a digital and interactive world of discovery, bringing Trier’s UNESCO World Heritage to life. Here you can explore the city’s rich Roman and medieval history, understand how everything connects, and experience the magic of Trier’s heritage in a whole new way.
And the best part? The real treasures — ancient buildings and documents — are all within a short walk from the center, just minutes away!

Right in the Heart of Trier
You’ll find the World Heritage Experience Center in the historic vaulted cellars of the Steipe, directly on Trier’s Main Market Square — the perfect starting point for exploring the city’s UNESCO sites.

What Awaits You Inside
Digital. Interactive. Immersive.
Get ready to travel through time! Using state-of-the-art technology and artificial intelligence, the WEZ brings scenes from ancient and medieval Trier to life — spectacularly and vividly.
Step into virtual reality experiences, explore interactive walls and projections, and be amazed by captivating audio-visual installations. The center combines knowledge and entertainment to create a fascinating experience for visitors of all ages.

Experience History With All Your Senses
Follow interactive stations through Trier’s Roman and medieval stories and discover rare World Documentary Heritage treasures.
At the WEZ, history becomes something to see, hear, touch, and feel. Learn what the UNESCO World Heritage title means, how sites are chosen, and how Trier’s heritage shines on the world stage.

The entire experience will be barrier-free, designed according to the "Travel for All" accessibility standard — so that everyone can explore comfortably and independently.

Open All Year – Rain or Shine
No need to worry about the weather! As an indoor attraction, the WEZ will be open year-round, offering a great experience during any season — especially from November to March, when outdoor activities may be limited.

Opening in 2028
The World Heritage Experience Center Trier is expected to open in 2028. Stay tuned for updates as we bring this exciting new destination to life — step by step, brick by brick, story by story.
