Along the way, participants learn lots about Napoleon and the Prussians, the Holy Robe pilgrimage of 1844 and its enormous pull, the waves of en-masse emigration and the liberal casino society, and the technical achievements and their impacts on the working world and communication. But they’ll also get up close and personal with Karl Marx, who talks about his contemporaries and teachers, his best friends, and ‘Trier originals’ like Fischers Maathes. But he of course also talks about Jenny, whom he met here, and without whose unconditional support his work would not have been possible.
