On the trail of adventure!

Through the Gillenbach forest gorge on the outskirts of the city

The mystical Gillenbach valley is just some two kilometres from the bustling city centre and only a stone's throw from the busy B51 national road: fallen trees, washed-out river bends, remnants of former paved paths.

The 5.1 km circular trail starts at the Stadtwaldhotel Gillenbachtal and continues along the old Roman road into the nature reserve. In addition to this natural forest, you will have the opportunity to see the direct difference to a commercial forest. The diverse geology that accompanies you along the way provides insights into the change from shell limestone to sandstone and sand extraction in the sand caves. Towards the end of the tour, you will be rewarded with wonderful views of the city of Trier and St Mary's Column.
