The Gladiator Legend

It’s been a good 1,600 years since gladiators faced off in Trier. But what’s the ‘gladiator legend’ all about? Actor Isaac Boateng investigated. He put on a gladiator’s armour, spend months training with martial artists from the Trier Gladiator School (a modern gladiator school), met lots of reenactors, and conducted research. He now gets rid of all preconceptions and, in his approx. 75 minute programme, provides insights into the life and training of real Roman gladiators.

In addition to a brief introduction and lots of interesting facts about the highly specialised fighters, he also gives visitors the opportunity to hold a sword and shield for themselves. Through practical exercises, the participants come to learn how complex ancient gladiator fighting really was. Anyone can take part; no special fitness is required. All that’s needed is a willingness to put your own myth-making up for critical review.
