St Michael’s in the District of Mariahof

The floor plan, design, altar room and Hajek’s abstract Zeichen am Wege image sequence have made St Michael’s an impressive example of modern architecture which plays with and challenges visitors’ usual visual perceptions. There’s a lot here that’s not apparent at first glance – a good reason to have someone explain the building’s unusual exterior and interior, the representational (Schwarzkopf) and abstract (Hajek) interior paintings, and the ideas behind the other interior-design elements. It’s an unusual church, an unusual example of modern architecture, and an impressive tour in many respects!
