Wine Events

With its 9,000 hectares of vineyards, the Moselle region is by no means the largest wine-growing area in Germany. But it is the oldest - and world-famous for its almost 4,000 hectares on steep slopes with a gradient of over 30 per cent.

The Celts are said to have fermented wild grapes here. It was only with the Romans, however, that the professionals came to the Moselle region: the Romans extracted the precious grape juice not only with their feet, but also with sophisticated wine presses.  The daily wine ration "Mulsum", mixed with various spices and herbs and sometimes even smoked over a fire, was especially enjoyed by the soldiers stationed in the region.
Even today you can enjoy Mulsum, Elbling and Riesling in Trier - there are numerous wine events in the summer months.
